How's Your Velocity for 2026?

Today (February 20th) is the 51st day of 2026.

How’s it going so far?

One of the values I’ve set for Wild Gym is to live an “examined life.”

That means taking an honest look at your trajectory—how it’s serving you right now, and whether you’re actually on a path to the future you want to arrive in.

Which is why it’s critical to evaluate both the speed and direction of your life.

Speed:
Going fast in the wrong direction just makes things worse.

Velocity:
Velocity is speed with direction.

A business growing 300% per year that isn’t profitable just goes bankrupt faster.

It’s often more sustainable (and durable) to grow 10% per year and focus on profit-first.

The same is true for health and fitness.

It’s very possible to follow a crash diet, do crazy HIIT workouts daily, stack a dozen supplements—and see “results”…

…but it’s highly unlikely those results will last.

That’s speed without the right direction.

Consider the alternative:

  • Rucking 3–4x per week for 20–30 minutes

  • 2–3 strength workouts

  • 3 mobility sessions

  • Making your own meals with whole foods

  • Sleeping 7–8 hours per night

  • Spending ample time outside

  • A disciplined media diet

  • Relationships that invigorate you

That’s long-term velocity.

There’s a principle in strength & conditioning called progressive overload.

Basically: slowly and consistently pushing just beyond your “threshold of adaptation” so your body has a reason to improve.

It requires choosing the right velocity based on where you’re starting—and where you want to end up.

I made a list of “ideas” I wanted to explore in 2026:

  • Create a Tribe of 5

  • Make a “To Don’t Do” List

  • No New Books*

  • 1 hyper-focused work hour per day

  • Treat mobility like a workout

I just revisited this list as a speed check.

I’m definitely not 100%… but my velocity is generally on point.

I’ll take it.
